For your partners in life, fun, crime and mischief. This one is all about the details: the bottom edge has a neat contrast of colour; and the decreases are also worked in a contrasting colour for a sharp, cool, finish. Try in a variegated yarn with a saturated solid for contrast if your partner is crazy or in contrasting naturals if they are calm.

Sizing

Age/size bands are for guidance only: choose a size approx. 5 cm (2 in) less than your actual head circumference for a snug fit; for a slouchy fit choose up to zero ease. It also worth checking the depth of hat you prefer by measuring from the top of your head to where you would like the hat to stop. If necessary, add greater length before beginning the crown decreases. This is designed as quite a long beanie to cover the bottom of the ears and back of neck. If you prefer a shorter hat that sits higher on your forehead then equally reduce the length by a cm or two/1/2 to 3/4 an inch. Add 2.5cm/1in to the length for a slouchy fit.

0-6 months: 31cm/12 ¼in circ., 12.5cm/5in long
6 -18 months: 35cm/13 ¾ in circ., 14cm/5 ½in long
18 months-4 years: 40cm/15 ½in circ., 16.5cm/6 ½in long
4 years- adult small: 46cm/18 ¼in circ., 21 cm/8 ¼in long
Medium adult: 49cm/19 ¼in circ., 23cm/9in long
Large adult: 53cm/21in circ., 23.5/91/4 ¼in long

Yarn & yardage
DK or light worsted weight yarn. I used Wooltops British wool DK as the Main Colour (MC) and New Lanark pure wool DK in Navy as the Contrast Colour (CC). Self striping yarns make a great effect on the crown as can be seen in the example by Sandyvar.
Any wool or acrylic yarn with which you can achieve gauge should be fine here.

Always allow some extra yarn. If you change the suggested yarn or use yarns of different weights you may need to allow greater yardage.
