Pavasaris is the Lithuanian word for spring – the days are growing longer, we wake up to a blue sky, and we don’t want to knit heavy sweaters anymore.
This hat is just the right thing for a spring trip to the sea or the mountains, sheltering you from the breeze without making your head boil.

This pattern does not require a specific gauge. The construction of the hat makes it possible to adjust it to the desired size while knitting.
The intricate twisted stitch ornaments add an elegant and playful element to an otherwise plain piece of knitwear. Crossing cables on the right and wrong side of your knitting can be a bit of an adventure, but as soon as the brim is finished you can relax with plenty of simple stockinette stitch.
Make it as slouchy or as close-fitting as you like. This can be a ski cap or a skater beanie, the choice is yours! :)

Yarn advice:
The original hat used 225 yds / 205 m (just a tad more than half a hank) of Old Maiden Aunt’s Merino Superwash 4ply (400 yds / 365 m per 100g).
The pattern can be used for any fingering / 4ply, sport or dk yarn. A smooth high-twist wool yarn is recommended to make the cables stand out clearly. Sock yarns, including 6 and 8ply, would work very well.

Needle advice:
Your needle size will depend on your yarn choice. The twist stitch cables will pull in a bit, so the needle should not be too small because that would make it harder to work the cables. As a rule of thumb, use a needle about 1 or 2 sizes larger than you would use for socks in the same yarn weight.

The twisted stitch pattern is given both as a chart and as written instructions.
