I discovered that this lovely Estonian lace pattern is a great match for self-patterning yarns. With the Peacock stitch and the yarn, the scalloped stripes just pop out. It makes for a beautiful look. This is a simple introduction to lace knitting and it’s sized from preemies to 4-yr-olds so you’re sure to find someone for whom you can knit it.

Size:
3-5 lb preemie, 8 lb newborn, 12 mo, 4T

Materials:
1 (1, 2, 3) balls (50 g) solid 4-ply yarn (MC) (approx. 50 g or 1 ¾ oz = 210 m or 229 yds)
1 (1, 1, 2) balls (50 g) self-patterning sock yarn (CC) (approx. 50 g or 1 ¾ oz = 210 m or 229 yds)
5 (5, 6, 7) ⅜” (1 cm) buttons

Any self-patterning sock weight yarn paired with a coordinating solid-coloured yarn can be used.
