Pecan is a unisex pixie-style baby hat, with a cute pointy peak and a built-in loop at the top to make it easy to store or display when it’s not being worn. It’s very cute and elfin-looking in earthy colorways, and would probably look nice in more natural (soft!) wools as well.

This seamless design is easy to knit, and friendly to ambitious beginners--all you have to be able to do is knit in the round, purl, and work decreases! (You’ll also need to be able to crochet a chain.) Knit in Malabrigo Rios (the sample shown is in colorway “Sandstorm”), it’s also very soft.

Gauge is 18 sts and 26 rows in stockinette. The recommended needles for Rios in this gauge are US 6-8, or 4.0mm-5.0mm, but your mileage may vary--please use the needles you need to knit correct gauge.

This pattern includes a schematic, so it’s easy to compare your work to the given English and metric measurements as you go.

The pattern for Pecan Beanie is offered as a free download for a limited time, through September 30th. After that, the pattern will be available for a small fee. Happy late summer/early fall!
