Penicuik is simple yet effective Garter stitch shawl.
It’s perfect for gradients… or two skeins of your favorite sock yarn plus leftovers.
The shawl begins at the center and is worked outwards to the border. This fun shawl is worked in 4 garter sections with slip-stitch stripes and finished with picots.

Size
One: approx. 182.5 cm/72” wide and 48.5 cm/19” long at center.

Yarn
WOOLFOLK TYND (100% merino; 204m/223y per 50g); 4 skeins: one of each color. Sample shown in 4 Pewter (A), 3 Medium Grey (B), 2 Silver Grey (C), and 1 Off White (D).

Needles
3.5 mm/US #4 circular needle (100 cm/40” long).

Other
2 stitch markers, tapestry needle for weaving.

Gauge
22 sts and 38 rows = 10 cm/4” in Garter st measured flat after wet blocking.
The gauge isn’t crucial on this project, but differences will affect the finished size as well as the required yardage.
