This crochet pattern for an attractive wine bottle gift bag provides instructions for two size variations, color patterns, and tie options. It works up quickly and is fun to make. The two gift bags shown are done in Christmas Holiday colors but you can enjoy creating your own color scheme for any occasion, holiday, décor, or season, as well as school and team colors for any alumni or sports fan on your gift list.

The hand crocheted gift bag is reusable and adds a thoughtful, personal touch to your gifts of wine for Christmas, Hanukah, Birthdays, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, Housewarmings, Hostess Gifts, Graduations, Weddings, Showers, and so many other occasions.

The smaller version fits a standard 750ml wine bottle and the larger version fits up to a large 1.5 liter bottle of wine. The gift bags can also accommodate various other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage bottles.

Materials:

Hook: F Hook (3.75 MM)

Gauge: Gauge is not critical for this project. My gauge was 12 stitches and 7 rows in double crochet equal about 4”. The base of the regular size gift bag, done in single crochet, is about 2.5” diameter. The circumference of the regular size bag is just under 10.5”. The base of the larger gift bag is about 3.5”, done in double crochet. The circumference of the larger bag is about 11.75”

Yarn: Lion Brand, Vanna’s Choice in 1 skein each of three colors: Cranberry, Color 180; Olive, Color 174; Beige, Color 123. Each skein is 170 yards and the three skeins are enough to make several gift bags.

YARN NOTE: I’ve learned that the yarn I recommended when I wrote this pattern has been discontinued and may have limited availability. If you have trouble finding Lion Brand, Vanna’s Choice, I’m recommending a substitute yarn that is very similar. Red Heart With Love Solids is a 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn available in many colors. The colors similar to the ones in the photos are as follows: Aran (#1303), Lettuce (#1601), and Berry Red (#1914). If you want a darker green, another substitute for the Olive shade is Red Heart Soft, either Dark Green or Dark Leaf. (See Addendum pdf after download.)

Any type of worsted weight yarn, including cotton, should work for this project, but check your gauge. While gauge is not super important, you do want the bag to fit around a wine bottle!
