About the pattern

This shawl is worked from the middle, out to the border. The increase rate is slightly irregular to follow the lines of the cable medallions. Halfway through the shawl, the medallions get narrower and are replaced by ribbing that increases in width at a steady rate, forming fluted ruffles between each medallion.

The Set-up Chart shows RS and WS rows. The remaining charts show RS rows only. Read charts from right to left on RS rows and left to right on WS rows. RS row numbers appear on the right side of the chart. WS row numbers appear on the left. To prevent Chart C from growing too

wide, special symbols are used to show multiple stitches over 2 chart grid spaces. Open circles represent knit stitches and filled circles represent purl stitches. Note that the last special symbol of the row will be worked differently on the last repeat.
This shawl could be worked with 4 instead of 5 repeats of the charts, if less yardage is available. The Set-up Chart would need to be adjusted accordingly.
