My 11 year old daughter, Petal, asked me to knit her a hooded poncho. I wasn’t too happy with what was out there, so I wrote my own.

This is written for any knitter that can cast on any way they can, do a knit stitch and a purl stitch and wants to learn more. It has written tutorials as well as links to YouTube videos for more complex techniques. If you are a beginner knitter and want to do something big, but not as overwhelming as a sweater, this pattern is for you!if you’re an expert but want something to knit in front of the television, buy now!

Gauge isn’t super important, but knitting at a different gauge will effect how much yardage required. This is a great stash-buster! But if you want to knit a duplicate of the blue and pink poncho, beware that I got pretty close to using up all my yarn (three blue, three variegated pink)

ABOUT PETAL

My daughter has a mild form of autism, commonly referred to as Asperger’s syndrome. North Carolina’s public school system simply couldn’t provide her with the support she needed, so we send her to a private school for bright, intelligent kids with learning disorders called The John Crosland School. Unfortunately, it costs about as much as our mortgage!

To top it off, I’m a paraplegic with chronic pain and depression and am unable to work. However, I opened up an Etsy store and now a Ravelry store so I could maintain my dignity by contributing to Petal’s education via my skills. I mention all this because I want you to know your purchase is helping my family out and giving me some independence and dignity.(yes, my name is Rose and I named my daughter Petal) Enjoy!
