Philomena is a cabled dress, worked from the hem up. Sizing and shaping are performed in the reverse stockinette stitch fields between the cables. The A-line skirt gradually tapers to create a fitted waist and then flares back out for the bust. The cables create a strong vertical line, gently accentuating the feminine curve of the dress shaping to make a classic and visually flattering silhouette for most figure types. For help with using lifelines and markers, refer to my Learn Something New article, Cable Lifelines, in this issue. When choosing a size, for most body types the dress will fit best with zero to slightly negative ease at the bust. A snug fit at the bust and upper back will not only help hold the weight of the dress but will also emphasize the flare of the skirt.
