This hat is recommended for Intermediate to experienced level Crocheters. It is in Tapestry crochet and is definitely Unisex. It incorporates Colour Stranding techniques with floats. There are video links with helpful information on the pattern. This is a hat that you can make for the whole family.

The Adult Hat, at 24.75 inches unblocked, took 210 yards of Main Color and 146 yards of the Contrasting Color. The infant Hat took less than one 85 yards of each color.

The Philosopher’s Toque” was born at the first Men’s West Coast Fall Knitting Retreat at Point Bonita, California in 2008. It is a Tapestry Crochet Hat honoring the Tree of Life. The design has the ability of creating hats for a baby, teenager or an adult. From 12” to 26” in circumference.

The technique used to make these hats creates a dense fabric, keeping your head warm by design. If you substitute the yarn, make a swatch and block it, so there are no surprises. Block hats following the manufacturer’s suggested washing instructions.

I want to thank R.Buffalo for his help and feedback in the making & testing of this pattern. If you have any questions about yarn substitutions or blocking, don’t hesitate to send me an email. Enjoy the journey into wearable Art.
