The little balls of leftover yarn, too small to become their own projects, but too pretty to be thrown away, receive a new purpose with this pattern. Pieces of My Heart Shawl is a great stash buster as it can be made using only leftover yarns, or with mini skeins, or even with full skeins. It’s a fun shawl to knit and the result can be as colorful as you desire, as you can use any number of colors, from 2 to 1000! The pattern is fully adaptable so you can create a shawl as long as you want it to be. It features stripes of garter stitch and simple lace sections. Your creativity will shine as you knit your very own unstructured and unique shawl.

How to pick yarn
You can knit this pattern using a few full skeins of the same length, or leftover yarns from other projects, which would result in several shorter skeins of different length. You can use any yarn weight from lace to worsted, as long as all your yarns have the same gauge.

With fingering weight yarn, a total of approximately 100 g / 400 yards will create a shawlette, and 200 g / 800 yards will create a good size shawl. A larger amount of yarn may create a big shawl that will allow you to be completely wrapped inside.

Pattern includes step by step instructions and a schematic to help you pick up the perfect scrap yarns.

It also includes detailed instructions to work from full skeins. If you’re planning on working from full skeins, I suggest using five to ten skeins of 20g to 50g.

The pictured shawl was made using 15 colors, for a total of approximately 740 yards / 185 g. Colors varied in length from 3 to 170 yards. Its dimensions are 67” (170 cm) wide at top edge by 48” (122 cm) long at final border.

Adaptable shawl
All sections are adaptable (they can be made longer or shorter), and can be repeated as many times as you want. The size of your shawl will be the size you want it to be.
