The Pinctada cowl features a deeply set central cable bordered by two ribbons of little pearl cables. Along with i-cord edging, these strong linear elements create a flattering v-neckline whilst protecting the décolletage and back of neck from the cold.

The pattern includes detailed directions to assist with grafting. Alternatively, the cowl can be finished with a 3-needle bind-off.

Both charts and written instructions are included.

Pattern support is always close at hand via the {stringkitty} group. Please come and knit along with us!

What does Pinctada mean?

Pinctada Maxima, the great pearl oyster, was discovered off the coast of Broome in 1861. People rushed from all over the world to this remote Western Australian town to take part in harvesting the precious Mother of Pearl, mainly for buttons. More information about this fascinating time in history is available here.
