The name of this shaw was inspired by the lace pattern with the centered double decreases is reminiscent of pine cones. This is a simple lace shawl that is knit from the top center out to the edges. The lace pattern is simple enough to memorize but will keep your interest. It’s a great first shawl pattern since the lace is only on the right side rows, and the lace repeats aren’t too long.

The shawl shown has three repeats of Chart 1, and uses 400 yards of lace weight yarn. This shawl would look great in a fingering or even DK weight yarn, and you could work as many repeats of chart 1 as you like. If you use a heavier yarn remember to increase your needle size. For fingering weight yarn use US 6 (4 mm) or 7 (4.5 mm) and for DK weight yarn use 7 (4.5 mm) or 8 (5 mm) needles. The amount of yarn you will need will also increase if you do more repeats or use heavier yarn.
