From the description:

Viola took an old pattern and gave it new life when she changed the color scheme to create this prizewinner: the instructions called for browns, but Viola substituted hues from the forest and meadow.

Note: Viola M. Heaton was the prize-winning afghan maker, not the designer.


  • afghan stitch: 9sts and 8 rows = 2”
  • shaded pattern: 4sts and 4 rows = 1”

Materials: Worsted weight yarn, approximately:

  • 28oz dark green (A)
  • 8oz beige (B)
  • 12oz light blue (C)
  • 12oz light rose (D)
  • 12oz dark rose (E)
  • afghan hook size F, or size to match gauge
  • crochet hook size F, or size to match gauge
