This is a pattern for a poncho/capelet that is knit top-down and in the round. The sizes range from adorable little girl to awesome woman.

Most of the knitting is plain stockinette stitch with only three increase rows, and a ruffle. The novelty yarn used on the ruffle is combined with the main yarn for a stunning effect. The only techniques required are the knit stitch, a simple increase stitch, long-tail cast on, and bind-off. This is a good starting project for a beginner, and a relaxing weekend knit for an intermediate knitter.

Any yarn knit to a gauge of 18 stitches to 4 inches will work as the main yarn with this pattern. I have suggested three yarns. If you use a lighter weight yarn, and knit it to pattern gauge, the capelet will look the same but have additional drape to the fabric.

The novelty yarn is used on the ruffle, and can be omitted if desired.
