Pinstripe TenScarf

Knitting
March 2009
Worsted (9 wpi) ?
4.5 stitches and 7 rows = 1 inch
in garter stitch
US 9 - 5.5 mm
This pattern is available for free.

Inspired by the Fourth Doctor Scarf-a-longs on the who_knits community on LiveJournal, this is the sort of stripey scarf the Tenth Doctor might wear.

Needles/Hooks
This scarf is knit lengthwise, so I would recommend using at least a 36”/90cm circular needle.

As this is pretty much just a basic garter stitch pattern, it would probably also work well for crocheting (possibly with an I hook?). Not being a crocheter, however, I don’t know how much yarn you would need.

Size
This is a scarf, so length/width modifications can be made; however, keep in mind that the pattern is worked lengthwise.

My finished dimensions were 80 in by 6.5 in (or approx 2m by 16.5cm).

Gauge and Yarn
I only used a 1 inch gauge for knitting maths purposes (and I didn’t want to use too much yarn and run out)--an approximate gauge over 4 inches is 18 sts and 28 rows to 4in/10cm.

That being said, gauge isn’t really that important--unless perhaps if you might be planning on making size modifications.

Yarn weight isn’t important, either--I just like worsted. Colour could also be changed … perhaps for Ten’s blue/maroon pinstripe suit?
