Whenever I think of autumn I’m reminded of a picture I saw as a child. It showed Pitlochry in Scotland, a heavily wooded area covered in all the shades of red and orange you could imagine. This yarn reminded me of that scene so much I knew I had to design a leaf motif to show it off. The pattern is easily adapted from a scarf into a cowl, and is suitable for dk weight yarn as well as fingering.

Difficulty: Easy

One Size, Finished Measurements: 23 cm (9″) wide x 45 cm (17.5″) across

Materials:
Colinette Jitterbug [100% merino; 318 yd/291m per 110g skein]; color: October Afternoon, 1 skein
E/4 (3.50mm size) hook
Yarn Needle
Gauge: Gauge is not critical to this design; work to desired length.

Note: The pattern is worked straight. When finished it can be left as a short scarf, or the ends joined to make a cowl. The cowl in the photos has been joined with a twist, again, this is optional. If you are planning on making the finished piece into a cowl then be sure to leave a long tail when chaining your foundation row. This can then be used to sew the two ends together.
