Pochuck Valley is a crescent shawl knit from the top down with striping, eyelets, and a simple Estonian lace inspired border.

Pochuck Valley is a beautiful piece of heaven in Northwestern New Jersey. (Pochuck is a Lenape word for “out of the way place”). The grassy wetlands and surrounding mountains set the stage for this shawl design. My favorite hiking trail lies within Pochuck Valley. The trail begins with a narrow boardwalk through the preserved Wetlands and continues over a suspension bridge and a private cow pasture. Once out of the pasture, the ascension to the Wawayanda summit begins. The trail becomes very steep and rocky, covered in methodically placed pieces of stone to create a makeshift stairway. At the top of the mountain, there is a view unlike no other. You can see the Appalachian ridge, pastures, and preserved farmland for miles. It is here, with this breathtaking view, that my fiancé and I became engaged. This trail will always have a special place in my heart. I hope you too find romance while you knit this pattern.
