This pattern is part of Claire Ellen Club 17-18, which will feature 11 sock patterns and a number of accessories and other items.

It’s also available free to everybody-- no club membership necessary. Enjoy!

A note on the yarn options-- I strongly recommend using leftover bits of yarn. I have a huge pile of leftovers from socks, I think most sock knitters do. It’s possible to work the entire piece in a single color, but it’s also possible to work it in stripes, square by square, etc. I think the center would look lovely in a variegated yarn, but the edging needs a tonal or solid to show off the lace.

Skill-level: Intermediate, pattern includes mitered squares, modular construction, and lace stitches.
Materials: Sock weight yarn in small amounts (20-30g), leftovers from socks will do nicely.
Needles: US3 (3.25mm) circular needle (at least 24-inch length, but longer is fine).
Tools: Tapestry needle, scissors, measuring tape (or gauge square)
Sizing: Entire piece is approximately 10 inches by 10 inches (25cm by 25cm). Changing the gauge or yarn weight can change the size, but will also change the yardage requirements.
Gauge: 24 stitches and 26 rows per 4 inches (10cm) in garter stitch (each small square should measure 2.75 inches by 2.75 inches (7cm by 7cm)
