This tadpole like Pokemon has just grown new legs and is unsteady on its feet preventing it from walking well. What it lack on land it makes up for in the water. It is a very powerful swimmer even able to support a person on its back to carry it across sea once it has learned HM03, surf. The spiral on Poliwag’s belly is actually its internal organs that can be seen through its thick skin. After it has finished eating the spiral becomes more visible as its stomach expands.
