Polypodium vulgare
I love ferns, but I am absolutely terrible at growing my own. Despite a backyard that seems perfect for them, I’ve had no success at all. So I’ve had to content myself with including one here and hoping that someday I’ll magically become a better gardener. In the meantime, these lovely, lacy socks just might be the perfect thing to console me. Their curved cuff and intricate texture remind me of curling fern fronds. The result is both beautiful and delicate. If you’re looking for something a bit quicker and sturdier, this cowl might be just the ticket. It strips the idea of ferns down to the simplest interpretation. The resulting lace pattern is easy to work, and the cowl is both satisfyingly graphic and comfortingly substantial.
