Traditionally, the watch cap was worn by sailors of the US Navy and Coast Guard during extreme weather conditions. Imagine if these tough sailors had added a pompon to their warm caps.

This is a simple, extremely warm cap for your trips to the wintry woods, the bookstore down the street, or sporting events. Knit with bulky yarn, this cap works up fast. Pompons are making fashion headlines this season, so here you go! Directions are written for a Women’s Medium with negative ease. Adjustments for larger or smaller sizes can easily be made in multiples of 4.

Skill Level: Easy

Materials:
3.5 ounces 100 gm bulky weight yarn. This amount allows for pompon. (Model was knit using Berroco Ultra Alpaca Chunky.)

16-inch 40 cm circular needle, US size 9 5.5 mm, or size needed to achieve gauge.
1 set of 4 double-pointed needles, US size 9 5.5 mm, or size needed to achieve gauge.
