Inspired by the beautiful natural colors in the Daughter of a Shepherd range, I set out to combine them in a graphic yoke sweater. The resulting design evokes the European marine charts I learned about in grade school, Such port to port navigation maps used the idea that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line and their many crossing points are beautiful and graphic. So I embraced the impulse to name the sweater after those navigational paths: Portolan.
