Construction: The Portside Hat is a bulky - weight, striped hat with slipped stitch columns. This is a fun fall hat pattern for a fitted beanie, perfect for a brisk walk. This hat comes in three sizes to fit teens and adults.

Skills needed: knitting and purling in the round, slipping stitches, decreasing by SSK.

Size: Teen, (small, large) adult
Circumference: Stretches to fit 20”, (22” 24”) heads.
Height: 7 ¼” (7 ½”, 8”)
Gauge: 14 sts and 16 rows per 4” in striped pattern knit in the round.

Materials:

  • US 10 (6.0 mm) 16” circular needle, or two sizes smaller than gauge needle.

  • US 10 ½ (6.5 mm) 16” circular needle and double pointed needles, or size needed to obtain gauge.

  • Main color: 75 (80, 90) yards bulky weight (no. 5) wool blend yarn.

  • Contrasting color: 20, (20, 25) yards bulky weight (no. 5) wool blend yarn.

  • Samples shown using Lion Brand Hue + Me yarn (80% acrylic/ 20% wool, 125 g., 137 yards) in Magic Hour (darker blue) and Ozone (lighter blue).

  • Stitch Marker.

  • Yarn needle.

  • Scissors.

  • Optional: Pompom or hat topper.
