This dynamic little hat is perfect for advanced beginner knitters. There are only basic techniques used to make a visually interesting texture. Add pompoms to amp up the drama and you’re sure to get compliments every time you wear this baby out and about!

Sizes: Baby (Toddler, Child, Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large) to fit a head circumference of 14” (16”, 18”, 19.5”, 21”, 23”)/35.5 (40.5, 45.5, 49.5, 53.5, 58.5) cm, with negative ease.

Yarn: 60 (75, 100, 125, 150, 200, 250) yards/55 (70, 90, 115, 140, 180, 230) meters of DK weight yarn. Sample shown in Sweet Grass Wool Mountain Silk – DK colorway Nassau.

Needles: Size US 6/4 mm and size US 7/4.5 mm circular needles with a long (40”/100 cm) cable or double-point needles, for preferred method of working in the round, or size needed to obtain gauge and 1 size smaller.

Gauge: 18 sts and 28 rows = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette stitch on larger needles.

Notions: Stitch markers (optional), tapestry needle, large party balloon (for blocking, optional), and 2 faux fur pompoms.

I sourced my pompoms on eBay. They are very inexpensive there and you can find any color and size you want! Just search for “faux fur pompom”. Faux fur ones look and feel so good nowadays that there’s no need to use real fur and contribute to the fur industry. Try them out!

Techniques: Knitting in the round, basic chart reading, and basic decreases.
