This Pattern is for a Preemie hat,

the pattern describes how to make a preemie hat with a circumference of 25 cm and height of 11.5 cm
Or 10 inch circumference and 4.5 inch height.

This should fit for about 28 - 32 weeks / 2.2 lbs - 3.75 lbs.
Please be informed this is estimated averages.
The hat will stretch a bit due to the nature of the stitches, making it suitable for different sizes.

** IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM A NICU NURSE SHARED IN THE SUNFLOWER COTTAGE CROCHET GROUP:

As a NICU nurse, please don’t make them with thick yarn, or super small. We tend not to put hats on the really small babies because they need humidity and are on a vent or CPAP which requires its own hat. They need to be soft, on the thinner side, and stretchy. Thicker patterns with bobbles or folded brims make head positioning difficult and they are usually in a heated isolette. Once they can be in an open crib and can wear a hat more, the tiny ones are too small or tight. Just for some insight. We get donated hats and many are too small or too thick to use. A larger preemie or smaller newborn size is perfect because they can also wear them home and the families love them! Thank you everyone for listening! ***

It is made with a DK (#3 or light weight) acrylic yarn and 4 mm hook.

You could change the pattern and hook to make the hat bigger. If you increase the flat circle also in r 4 , and the follow the pattern further with the higher stitchcoubr, your beanie will become a bit bigger.
i will write this update asap and everyone that downloaded the pattern will receive an update automatically

I have used the measurement table found on rememberingrobby.blogspot.com for reference but there are many tables found on the word wide web.

Please also have a look at the Preemie Bonding Hug Square, that would make a perfect set with this hat.

If you are looking for other sizes and designs, you can check my Preemie Beanie Pattern Set I designed for the PreemieCrochetChallenge 2020. This is also availabe in my Ravelry and Etsy Shop.

I would consider this an intermediate pattern due to used stitches.

Pattern is written in English US terms and used stitches include,
slipknot, single crochet, half double crochet, half double crochet cluster, crossed half double crochet, chain stitch, slip stitch.

You can choose to start with a magic ring, or chains closed with a slip stitch.

For preemies, you would use a soft and washable yarn.
Be hygienic during the process and before giving it to a child.
Make sure your hands and hook are clean (careful for smoke/ animal hair etc)

  • IMPORTANT NOTE * This pattern is part of the Preemie Crochet Challenge 2021 By downloading this pattern, you pledge you will at least donate 1 of the created hats to charity.
