Most hospitals prefer a preemie blanket that is closely woven so that tiny fingers and toes don’t get tangled up in it. This is one of my favorite “on-the-go” projects as it is small, portable, and requires little brainpower, so I can chat with family and friends and still avoid mistakes. Plus, I get that warm feeling of making something for charity. I hope you will consider doing the same with this free pattern.

I’ve made a couple of these for hospice (through Threads of Kindness) out of donated cotton worsted weight yarn. The yarn label gave ounces, not yardage, so I’m going to make another in order to post the yardage required.

Update: I made one from Plymouth Encore Worsted, and it only took 1 skein, i.e. a little less than 200 yards.
