These are made with Knit Picks Chroma Fingering in the colorway “Prism.”

I have an affection for fingerless mitts and the beautiful time of year when there is finally a chill in the air again, but it’s not so frigid that you need to keep every inch of your skin covered at all times. My favorite thing about this colorway is that the rainbow colors aren’t summery and bright when you would have no use for fingerless mitts. They are more toned down and autumnal.

So here it is, my first published pattern: Prism Break.
Prism for the colorway and Break because we will “break” from the round to knit the thumb hole flat.

Notes:

  • Gauge is not critical for this project.
  • I have fairly narrow hands, wrists and forearms (the widest part of my hand measures 8 ¼”), so this pattern may run small for an average adult. It’s very simple to increase or decrease the size of these gloves by casting on more or less stitches. Just make sure you cast on an ODD number of stitches.
  • Chroma is a 1 ply yarn, so don’t be surprised by the unevenness of it. Blocking will help even things out.
  • Be careful to start at the same spot in your color change or your colors won’t line up! This may mean doing some measuring prior to casting on, but it’s well worth it. Each ball of Chroma has four color repeats with a knot in the middle separating the first two from the last two. My advice is to separate your color repeats entirely, so you have a small ball/cake of each repeat and you can just put the other half of the ball away. Any minor difference in length can be solved by blocking.
  • kfb = knit through the front and back loop. If this is a new stitch for you, there are several videos on youtube that can walk you through it.
  • These gloves are long and are meant to be worn scrunched up around your forearm. If you are using a yarn other than Knit Picks Chroma in Prism, you can make these gloves as long or as short as you’d like (I have several in various lengths that I made with Knit Picks self-striping Felici).

Please feel free to leave any questions/feedback you have in the comments section. I hope you enjoy my first pattern!
