I have used the cat motifs from my Black Cat Fingerless Mitts pattern for this cowl.

The cosy cowl is knit in the round with ribbed borders and using the double knitting technique for the main body. The finished piece is double sided and double thickness, a bit like two separate pieces being sewn together back to back, stocking (stockinette) stitch is uppermost on both sides with the colours reversed on the ‘wrong side’ - although you end up with two right sides! The two sides or layers are knit at the same time. If you have not used this technique before all will become clear as you go.

The finished cowl has a circumference of 75cm/29.5in and a height of 18cm/7in.

This detailed pattern is 6 pages long and includes comprehensive written instructions, charts and photographs (the last 2 pages include how to add beads using a crochet hook, the abbreviations and notes on the double knitting technique; so you may not need to print these pages).
If you are new to double knitting you should be able to give it a go!

The cat motifs could also be used in a project using the stranded knitting (Fair Isle) technique.
