The fun and fast Pseudocrochet Scarf & Cowl pattern is part of the Magic Balls: Serendipitous Color handout.

(What is a magic ball? It’s a ball of yarn that has been created by knotting together different lengths of yarn--when you knit the color emerge like magic! The 8-page ebook contains instructions on how to make magic balls that give the effect you want, how to choose stitch patterns that will show of the color effects to their best advantage, how to plan a project, a list of free patterns that would work well with magic balls, the Forks Cap pattern (stranded), the Pseudocrochet Scarf & Cowl, and the barest outline of a two-color brioche cowl pattern.)

The intriguing yet easy stitch pattern works well with two magic balls, one magic ball plus one solid, or two solids. The scarf/cowl (the difference is simply in how long you choose to knit it) is knit flat, that is, back and forth--one color is used at a time, so you don’t need stranding skills!

Although the pattern is written for fingering weight yarn you could easily knit this with any weight yarn at any gauge--the stitch pattern stretches laterally, so you will want to use a needle 2 or even 3 sizes larger for the garter edges.
