It’s winter here in the PNW, and I am having a blast watching my grandbaby stomp her way through all of the rain puddles. As a Grandma, I am super excited to make new hats as she grows. This slip stitch hat pattern is designed with that in mind. With this pattern, you can knit different sizes by simply increasing your cast on by 10 stitches, (or 2 of the 5 stitch repeats) with each larger hat. It’s a great way to grow a new hat as your special child grows. This is also a great hat to knit up in a larger size for yourself, and your family or friends.

This is a simple pattern to memorize and can be made with leftover pieces of worsted weight yarn in a “fade” type fashion. To create a gradation from one scrap of yarn to the next, knit 6 rows switching every other row to add in the new color. This will transition you from one color to the next in a more subtle pattern. I prefer natural fiber yarns as they are more friendly to our planet, however any worsted weight yarn is fine.
