This hat was inspired by Prince’s song and movie “Purple Rain.” This pattern is available as part of a 4-pattern ebook including mitts, cowl and neckwarmer.

Pattern has been test knitted by multiple knitters and tech edited by Lauren Cross (crazyl).

Skills learned: Beading (full photo tutorial provided) and cabling without a cable needle (instructions provided)

Skill Level: Intermediate or Adventurous Beginner

Size: Woman’s Small/Medium (up to approx. 20”-22” head circumference), Woman’s Medium/Large (23” and up). Directions are written for size S/M with changes for size
M/L in parentheses

Gauge: 16 stitches and 23 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch, unblocked over larger needles

Materials:

  • Size 5.5mm (US 9) circular needles (at least 40” cable for magic loop) or double pointed needles or size to obtain gauge
  • Size 4.5mm (US 7) circular needles or double pointed needles
  • Crochet Hook (any size between 0.75mm-1.25mm) for beading purposes
  • Approx. 150-170 size E or 5/0 glass seed beads
  • Stitch marker (optional)
  • Tapestry needle
