I borrowed all of the Dr. Doolittle books from the library when I was little, over and over again. It’s surprising to me that the shy and polite Pushmi-Pullyu’s name grew to mean “conflicting and contradictory,” because I always thought it represented a succesful union of two identities: Half gazelle, half unicorn, all balance and magic and exchange. This wrap is designed with those thoughts in mind.

The wrap is constructed as follows: From a provisional cast-on, the Unicorn half is knitted to its end. Picking up st from the cast-on (now the middle of the wrap), the Gazelle half is knitted in the same way, in a contrasting color. Each half shares the same pattern, including stripes.

Yarn: Fingering weight single-ply or sock, approx 1050 total yards. See color notes below
Gauge: This design does not require an exact gauge. Choose needles that achieve the drape you prefer with the yarn you’re using. Note that sample shawl used down to the last gram of a full skein of both main colors, and varying gauge will affect yardage.
Finished size: 78 inches long from point to point, 17 inches wide

Color
There’s all sorts of possibilities here… high contrast or low, brights or neutrals, and on and on.
Wrap pictured uses five colors as follows:
MC Unicorn: – 435 yd skein, about 114g
MC Gazelle: – 435 yd skein, about 114g
Stripe A: – 65yd, 16g
Stripe B: – 65yd, 16g
Stripe C: – 65yd, 16g

Thank you to my test-knitter Sue Butler for catching my boo-boos and helping me clarify the stripe instructions!
