Quatrefoil motifs are common in decorative iron and metal pieces.

Here I’ve created a quatrefoil motif perfect to beginners to stranded knitting; in only one instance (working across the thumb gusset) do you ever carry a strand more than 1”. You can work the mitts in bold contrasting colors, or in a more subtle colorway such as the one shown.

Notions: Yarn needle, 3 stitchmarkers, waste yarn or extra circular needle for provisional cast on and to hold thumb stitches

Skills needed: Knitting in the round, stranded knitting, provisional cast on, sewn hem, chart reading.

Thank you to Alexandra Virgiel for tech editing.

ERRATA: Work the thumbs on the S/M mitts the same as for the M/L mitts (thumb chart got truncated on the small mitts).
