Pretty enough for Queen Lucy of Narnia, but practical enough that you can still shoot an arrow or wield a sword.
These fingerless mittens are worked in the round with small cable-like twists, and beads are placed on yarn overs to make diagonal lines of stitches and beads. (They use 140 size 6 glass beads.)

These mitts were designed for the 2012 Ravellenic Games. They have been test knitted. Gauge is not absolutely crucial but they’re designed to be snug so you don’t want to go much over 26 stitches to 10cm.

We had a lot of discussion about a name: originally the working title was ‘Twisty Cabley Mitts’ (names are not my forte). Then we thought they looked like bus or tractor tyres, but they’re too girly. Someone suggested Naiad, which led us to Narnia, and the wonderful Ingrid suggested they looked like something Lucy or Susan would have worn when they were Queens. So Queen Lucy’s Mitts they became!
