Inspiration behind the design of Queen of the Walk:

I first met Nanci Gibbons when her husband, Tom, came to our church as our new pastor. Tom might have been assigned our new pastor, but it became abundantly clear from the very beginning that he would NOT be leading our church alone…he and Nanci were definitely a team. He would also be the first one to tell you that he could not have done all he did without her. She came in like a whirlwind and completely enraptured all of us from the moment we met her. Little did we know at that time, what a profound impact she would have on our lives.

In the summer of 1996, Nanci sponsored me, along with 5 other women in our church, on a spiritual retreat called a Walk to Emmaus. It was life changing for all of us, not only for the very important spiritual guidance and direction it offered but also for the intensely close bond we formed and have continued to share, long after she and Tom were assigned to a new church.

We have been meeting quarterly for the past 22 years, loving each other as sisters, but Nanci was and always will be the Queen of the Walk to the rest of us.

I have designed this shawl for Nanci using 7 different colors that represent not only the 7 of us in our Emmaus group, but also the 7 special needs and/or hard to place children that Tom and Nanci adopted, giving them 9 children in total.
