This is a pattern that you can use regardless of yarn and you can make it in any size you want. In the pattern I use the numbers and sizes I had when making the original, but you can easily (I hope) use the pattern as a guideline to make the pattern you want.

The blanket is made diagonally and continuous. You start in one corner and continue without having to cut your yarn or join any squares. The squares are made in rows and worked together as you go.

The only gauge you need to worry about is making sure your squares will about the same width and height. The principle of this pattern works with any size of the squares.

I think it looks really good with self striping yarn with short colour repeats so each square looks striped. I bought 8 printed balls and 3 balls with one solid colour. I used all the printed yarn and a little more than 1 ball of the solid for the squares. The border used up the rest of the solids. (The reason I used solid in the blanket is that the shop ran out of printed balls and I wanted a big blanket.)
