My very first pattern! A quick and easy beginner’s project, easily adaptable to other yarn, needles, and hand sizes. This simple pattern features a stockinette body with garter stitch trim to prevent curling, and raglan “sleeves” for the thumbs.

I use 40” US 9 (5.5 mm) Kollage Square Circular needles for this pattern. Since most knitters need to go up a size to get gauge when using Squares, I listed the needles as US 8s (5mm). I strongly recommend knitting a gauge swatch.

Also, while one 108 yard skein of the recommended alpaca yarn made a full pair, when I used wool, the yardage went up to 152. I believe the alpaca stretched out while knitting, and so required fewer yards.

This pattern can be worked either Magic Loop or on DPNs. Needle size recommended is US 8 (5 mm) or size to get gauge. If you’ve never done Magic Loop, I recommend the Knit Witch’s excellent how-to video available here.
