This pattern makes a sweet little toy, or use your tortoise as a colourful pincushion. This pattern incorporates short rows to shape the shell, and picking up and knitting stitches along an edge.

Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the tortoise is knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round).

NEEDLES
A pair of 3.5mm single pointed knitting needles (US 4).

RECOMMENDED YARN
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; less than 25g in each colour.

NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, 2 small buttons and felt fabric scraps for eyes.

SIZES
One size only - The tortoise is 6cm tall x 9cm long.

TECHNIQUES
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, and seaming to finish.
