Some of you have seen this sock on the back counter during its development. Here it is now for you to enjoy. The pattern includes three major mountaineering elements: The Ascent (seed stitch), Safety (rope/cable), and Descent (squiggles).

In good Austrian tradition, I have chosen to use twisted traveling stitches. Twisted stitches become tighter as the knitted fabric is stretched, allowing the stitch pattern to become more defined, and perfect for socks.

The knitting charts used in this pattern are what I refer to as “Austrian Charts” - The book referred to in this pattern is Lisl Fanderl’s Bäuerliches Stricken 2 (1979). This book is my favorite all time knitting book and has been a life long knitting inspiration.
Enjoy, Caroline
