Learn how to work the Uneven Berry stitch and produce a beautifully textured crochet sampler square with this free, step-by-step photo tutorial.

The resulting square is perfect for all sorts of accessories such as pillow covers, coasters, dishcloths, and bags.

The pattern I’ve linked to makes a 10x10 cm (4”x 4”) square if the suggested yarn (DMC Natura Just Cotton) is used, but this can easily be sized up by using either a heavier yarn than stated or by adding several more stitches based on an even number of starting chains. Remember to change your hook size according to the yarn weight.

The shades of Natura Just Cotton I’ve used are Ivory, Aswan, and Gris Argent for the neutrals, and Jade and Amaranto for the contrast colours (less than 1 skein required for each colour). By using 100% cotton yarn, the resulting square is durable and can be machine washed.
