The Ratite scarf is designed to be shaped like a leaf, pointed at both ends with continuous bands of stripes following the outline of the leaf shape.

This pattern starts from a center line along the length of the scarf, and using short rows creates the elongated leaf shape within the first stripe. This is then accentuated by the following stripes in alternating colours with the shaping all at the ends.

While this pattern has been written to use 3 colours (a main, contrast and a bright colour) you could use your imagination to combine multiple mini’s or use gradients to create a unique Ratite.

This pattern is written from my scarf designed for
the “Wrapt in Art” exhibition I participated in at Heathcote Gallery
Perth – Western Australia - June 2016.

The first time I knitted Ratite, it was in cream and multi coloured browny-green mohair, which are the colours of the baby Emu chicks, which gives it this name.
