Does the name refer to the ancient instrument, or perhaps the hollow warning of the desperate rattlesnakes that stalk the plains? Are the ridges reminiscent of the prominent ribs of the half-starved and wild-eyed, or perhaps even the eerie spine of an alien queen? Only the Vagabond knows, and I’m not going to ask her.

This pattern is in the book Doomsday Knits, which is currently available at cooperativepress.com, as well as here on Ravelry.

ETA: In the pattern, the LEFT GUSSET instructions actually refer to the right gusset and vice versa. There are no actual consequences for following the instructions as indicated, just switch the gloves when you’re finished!
