This pattern is a SIZE INCLUSIVE design that comes with 4 versions of the tapestry chart (high res jpg, large version pdf, printable sectioned pdf, and an editable excel file), as well as a detailed Pdf Pattern with step by step picture instructions for any difficult parts, plus a lace chart for the back.

The Wendigo Monster is a First Nations mythological creature or evil spirit, the creation of which is different depending on the tribe that the story comes from. In some stories, it is a spirit that has possessed a person and then causes them to enact monstrously selfish and greedy deeds, such as murder and cannibalism. In others, a wendigo is created when a person is so greedy and corrosive they turn into a cannibalistic monster unable to satisfy their hunger. They are the embodiment of gluttony, excess, and greed. They are usually associated with harsh winters and times of famine. Depicted in popular culture, they have many different visual forms ranging from an emaciated person to a ravenous giant with the skull and antlers of a deer. Said to live in the woods, they try to draw their victims away by calling out to them in the voice of their loved ones or with the cry of a baby!

For my Poncho, I wanted to use the inspiration of that creepy mythology to create my newest design. The front of this poncho is created with hdc tapestry and the back is an amazing lace stitch. The effect of the tapestry image and lacy stitch combines creepy and delicate. It is very much creepy cute! Along with the lace and tapesty, the back has 2 ties that you can use adjust the shape to your waist.

The poncho has 8 sizes S - 5XL and is made with approx 2265(2622, 2877, 3202, 3462, 3947, 4224, 4522) Main Color and between 200-300 yards Contrast Color DK weight 3 yarn. I used Paintbox Yarns Simply DK for my poncho.

First Nations culture and mythology is a wide and beautiful tapestry. The Wendigo is a First Nations mythological being, and I make no claim to its origin. This page and pattern have been created with collaboration and help from First Nations friends. If you are interested in the wendigo or would like to learn more about First Nations culture and mythology please do not hesitate to do you research on the subject yourself.
