Raydale Jumper
This is a truly magical stitch – it looks like you’re knitting with two colours at once, but you’re only ever using one per row! It’s such a fun technique to knit, and the effect is always
impressive.
The design is inspired by traditional fisherman-style jumpers – not quite the formal Guernseys, but the cosy, practical knits worn by my own family while living by the sea and fishing for leisure. There’s a sense of heritage in every stitch.
To keep the pattern looking smooth and neat, I recommend slipping stitches purl-wise.
CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in separate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are drop shoulder. The neck is a boat neck with buttons on the shoulders.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, one simple colourwork, cast off. Joining seams. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch.
