This scarf is inspired by chunky cable with openwork sweaters seen on the runway that only the impossibly thin can wear. I find that with scarves gauge is not that important. The yarn I used for the sample is a medium weight. If you choose a lighter weight yarn go down a needle size (or 2). If you choose a chunkier yarn go up a needle size (or 2). Of course if you go up in yarn weight or needle size, you may want to have more that one skein of yarn available
