Like waves lapping up to reed on a riverbank, purl stitches ripple toward ribbing in these simple and chic handwarmers. Perfect for both women and men, they can be worn on their own, or layered over another pair of gloves or mittens for added warmth.

PATTERN NOTES
These handwarmers are knit flat and then seamed to create the thumbhole. The ribbing hugs your hands and creates a snug fit, while still allowing a comfortable amount of stretch. Wear them with the reverse stockinette and seam showing, or turn them around so the knit side faces outward.

Beginner knitters will love following this simple pattern to try out some of their newly learned skills, while experienced knitters will enjoy how easy and relaxing this project is.

YARN REQUIREMENTS
Approximately 80-90 yds/73-82m of a worsted weight yarn; a DK yarn will also work. For best results, choose a yarn that holds its shape well so the ribbing will maintain the elasticity to hug your hand.

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
US6 / 4mm (or size needed to get specified gauge), these are worked flat so you can use single pointed needles, or use circulars to knit back and forth; 2 stitch markers; tapestry needle.

GAUGE
21 stitches and 28 rows = 4”/10cm in stockinette.

DIMENSIONS & SIZING
Length: 6” /15cm (can be lengthened if desired but requires more yarn; allow approx. 10 yds/9m per inch).
To fit adult S (M, L): 6½ (7, 7½)” /16.5 (18, 19)cm unstretched circumference, and will comfortably stretch to approximately 1½”/4cm more.

SKILLS USED
Long tail cast on; knit and purl; invisible seaming using the mattress stitch technique.
