A rhythmically relaxing, visually interesting shawl.

“Release the Hounds” is so called because of the simple fact that it’s made in the Houndstooth stitch. It must be said in the voice of Mr Burns from the Simpsons.

This written pattern includes a chart, and table for colour changes & stitch count.

Materials:

• 5.5mm hook (I/9)
• I used aran weight yarn in a mix of brands: 1x Stylecraft Special in Plum (YA), 100% acrylic, 100g/196m/214yds, 2x Simply Paintbox Aran in Blush Pink (YB), 100% acrylic, 100g/184m/201yds, 1x I Love This Yarn in Ocean (YC), 100% acrylic, 199g/324m/355yds.

Abbreviations:

Ch = chain
Dc = double crochet (US single crochet)
Dtr = double treble (US treble)
Rep = repeat
St(s) = stitch(es)
Tr = treble (US double crochet)

Notes:

• The pattern is worked bottom up.
• Change colour on the last st before the turn.
• The chains at the beginning of rows count as a st.
• Optional: add tassels!
• Crochet over ends as you go

Tension: Tension is not important for this shawl but will affect amount of yarn you use.

Measurements: 51 x 203 cm / 20 x 80 inches
