This afghan was designed based on a 2009 trip to Belgium, specifically to see Antwerp, Bruges, the Waterloo battlefield, and the WWI Canadian battlefield sites. Within this design is:

~ my tribute to the Canadian soldiers buried there
~ the fact that Belgium is know for its lace
~ I have incorporated a Canadian lace pattern to demonstrate the inter-connectedness of our two countries
~ during the medieval ages, Flemish cloth was considered the best in the world and Bruges and Antwerp, also both port cities, grew very wealthy because of the cloth trade ~ the middle panel replicates what I imagine was the lusciousness of the clothing made from Flemish cloth.

This is an exquisitedly textured throw.
