This pattern is for any weight yarn, but should be knitted on needles smaller than recommended for the yarn for a tighter and more robust knit and longer lasting product.
It is designed for annual use during the Remembrance Day period. However, knitters of this poppy and recipients are strongly encouraged to donate on an annual basis to the Royal British Legion when they see a collector in the UK even if they have a knitted poppy, as I do!
